Brask’s textural paintings in ‘Sensory Garden’ at New Art Center

Two of Brask’s pieces in the Corridor Gallery at New Art Center, Newton, MA in “The Sensory Garden”

Three oil paintings by Rachel Brask will be on display as part of the juried group show, The Sensory Garden, at New Art Center in Newtonville, MA. The three paintings of Brask’s selected by Juror/Curator, Chenoa Baker, are three from Brask’s “Rainy Rip Reveal” series, a newer direction in which she includes strips of heavy textural paint daubs contrasting with her signature smooth, glossy “rainy windows” oil paintings. There are 23 artists included in this exhibition

“This exhibition is a literal and metaphorical exploration of connecting with nature, art, and ourselves through all our senses. Featuring elements of sight, smell, touch, and taste treated like a self-contained lush oasis from our lives. This user-friendly, experience-oriented show is a conduit for self-awareness and emotional healing. An organic exhibition of work that speaks to social and emotional learning. It seeks to cultivate a welcoming environment for various audiences holding multiple identities and their intersections, including the prioritization of mental health.”

Artists offer a wintertime oasis amidst political, social, and cultural transition. Fostering a connection with nature, art, and ourselves through all our senses, grounds and preserves us. We invite sight and smell and touch and taste (indicated by signage) in this self-contained terrarium or sanctuary. We honor and prompt your experience as a lodestar for self-awareness and emotional healing.”

An opening reception will be held on Monday, January 20, 5-7pm. The exhibit will be on exhibit January 15 to February 12, 2025. New Art Center is located at 61 Washington Park, Newton, MA. More info at newartcenter.org
