Urban Night Rain 8x10in oil painting by Rachel Brask
This painting was created on a day when a very strong windstorm knocked out the electricity for half a day, at night. As I painted this from very little daylight left after the sun had already set, and as we prepared several candles and oil lamps to get through the night, I thought about night and darkness. I have always had the idea to make rainy paintings inspired by an urban night rain, reflecting the city lights. I took a black-gessoed canvas and painted some dots in a made up composition imitating some city lights, street lights, and tall city buildings with lights on, punctuated by a full moon. This is the result several hours later after dripping.
